BUFFALO, N.Y. – It has been less than two weeks since Catholic Charities officials announced the status of the 2010 Appeal, and today the organization announced that an additional $708,808.27 in cash and pledges has been received since Palm Sunday (March 28), bringing the total to $8,804,241.74 or 83.8 percent of the $10.5 million goal.

The Appeal continues through June 30 and another $1,695,758.26 is needed to reach goal.

At the announcement the morning of March 29, officials reported that $8,095,433.47 or 77.1 percent had been collected in cash and pledges.

Catholic Charities’ leaders expressed their gratitude for the additional gifts and emphasized the need to continue to strive toward the final goal.

Sister Mary McCarrick, Catholic Charities interim diocesan director, said, “This progress is encouraging – to raise more than $700,000 in less than two weeks. However, we are aware of the need among the children, families, seniors and all of the people we serve across Western New York and we know that we must continue to push toward the goal we have set.”

She added, “While many in our region still struggle financially themselves, we urge those of us who are able to take this opportunity to step up and be counted among the compassionate and caring, to share from the goodness with which they have been blessed, and make a donation that will impact people in our community.”

Michael “Mick” Whipple, 2010 Appeal Chair, shared Sister McCarrick’s appreciation for the contributions thus far.

“We are very grateful for the response of our parishioners and the community thus far, and for the dedication of our Appeal volunteers who are persevering in their efforts to help us achieve our goal for the 2010 Appeal,” said Whipple. “I would like to reiterate the challenge I gave recently that can help us get there – one donation at a time. If you haven’t donated, make one change in your day that will allow you to support the Appeal: pack a lunch or skip the coffee shop, and give your savings to Catholic Charities.

“Each donation can make a difference in the life of a child, a domestic violence victim, or a family in crisis, perhaps in need of food to make it through the month. This Appeal is critical to Catholic Charities’ ability to assist the tens of thousands of people in need who seek our services.”

Donations can be made through Diocese of Buffalo parishes or directly to Catholic Charities. Donations and pledges are accepted at 741 Delaware Ave., Buffalo; by calling 716-218-1400 or via its secure website at www.ccwny.org.
