BUFFALO, N.Y. – The 2010 Appeal in support of Catholic Charities has just under $1 million to go to achieve its $10.5 million goal, officials announced today. A total of $9,540,910.51 in cash and pledges has been received since Palm Sunday (March 28), bringing the total to 90.9 percent of the goal.
While the total continues to edge closer to the goal, the pace is slower than officials hoped. As a result, parishes will be engaged in a special effort later this month.
Another $959,089.49 in contributions and pledges, or just over 9 percent, is needed to close the gap with eight weeks to go until June 30.
Catholic Charities’ officials again shared their appreciation for the community’s response, and they announced that parishes have been asked to conduct a “Catholic Charities Weekend” during Masses May 15-16.
“Once again this year, the ‘Catholic Charities Weekend’ offers parishioners and community members who have not yet donated, another chance to contribute,” said Sister Mary McCarrick, Catholic Charities diocesan director. “For those who already have opened their hearts with a gift to the Appeal, it’s a chance to go above and beyond to help someone who is struggling and in need of Catholic Charities’ services.”
Michael “Mick” Whipple, 2010 Appeal chair, added his thanks and emphasized that the goal is attainable.
“Because of the efforts of hundreds of volunteers and the generosity of more than 58,000 individuals and corporations we have come a long way since January,” said Whipple. “With less than $1 million to go, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, not just for achieving our goal but also for being able to be there for people who are poor, vulnerable or otherwise will need support or counseling in the coming year. This upcoming push and request for your generous help – one donation at a time – can truly bring this Appeal into the light!”
Donations can be made through Diocese of Buffalo parishes or directly to Catholic Charities. Donations and pledges are accepted at 741 Delaware Ave., Buffalo; by calling 716-218-1400 or via its secure website at www.ccwny.org.
