Catholic Charities offers several types of counseling and behavioral health services to help achieve and strengthen mental health in a wide range of individuals – from young children and teens to adults and older adults.

Children's Clinics

Our clinics in Niagara Falls and Lockport serve children ages 3-21 who present an emotional disorder, and who are appropriate for outpatient care. Additional services are provided to family members. Referrals are accepted from families and providers of children’s mental health, medical health and social services. Individuals and families who do not have insurance are offered a sliding fee scale.
Services include mental health assessment and evaluation, individual, family and group psychotherapy, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, behavior management, and parenting skills. Specialized services are provided by a clinician qualified to provide appropriate treatment for patients who are suffering from the effects of physical and/or sexual abuse.

Individual, Children & Family Counseling

While life can have challenges, no one needs to go through them alone. Families, children, adults and seniors can count on Catholic Charities’ professional and highly trained counseling experts for help with day-to-day troubles and serious concerns. This counseling service is available to residents of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming counties.

Similar counseling services in Erie County are offered in Buffalo and Cheektowaga. Diocesan Counseling Center for Church Ministers

The Diocesan Counseling Center for Church Ministers participates in the healing mission of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Buffalo. Rooted in the liberating love of God, we offer quality services which enrich lives and strengthen the faith community of Western New York.

Believing in the sacredness and uniqueness of each individual’s vocation, our professional staff works with understanding and respect for the religious values of clergy, religious and other persons committed to church ministry.

Services offered include: Individual and group therapy; consultation, facilitation; education workshops; psychological assessment; brief neuropsychological assessment; spiritual direction.

  • Seminarians
  • Candidates seeking admission to seminary or religious community
  • Lay church ministers

Our staff can also present workshops to clergy, religious communities and parish groups on the topics of: Communication and Conflict Resolution, Identifying and Coping with Depression, Anger and/or Grief, Retirement and/or Transitioning, Team/Leadership Building, and Mentoring Training.

Community Health Worker

Get Help

The Community Health Worker (CHW) program strives to build bridges between you and the community, medical, dental and mental health care providers. Your community health worker can help to take the role of your advocate, care coordinator, health educator, outreach worker and/or navigator. CHW can help with appointments and medication management, identify and link to additional supports and resources, work collaboratively with other service providers, and act as general support.

The CHW Program is open to Erie County residents of any income level and age, though a focus is given to those ages 18 or older. Candidates for the program must also have one or more chronic health conditions (physical and/or mental health).

Children’s Health Home Care Management

What is a Children's Health Home?

A Health Home isn’t a home at all; it’s a network of providers, health plans and community-based organizations that work with youth and families to meet your child’s needs. Whether it’s physical/dental needs, mental/behavioral health needs or general support making your lives better, Catholic Charities can help.

Who can enroll?

  • Age 20 and under and resides in Erie, Niagara, Cattaraugus or Allegany counties
  • Enrolled in or eligible for Medicaid
  • Youth has two or more chronic health conditions (physical and/or mental health diagnoses) OR
  • Youth has a single diagnosis of: HIV/AIDS, Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) or Complex Trauma AND
  • Youth and/or caregiver having trouble meeting the youth’s health needs: feel alone or in need of help.

Health Home Care Managers can:

  • Help with appointment and medication management
  • Assist families in becoming advocates for their child’s health, education and general well-being
  • Link families to necessary economic and environmental supports
  • Provide linkage to transitional services when stepping up to or down from a higher level of care, such as a Residential Treatment Facility, Child and Family Treatment and Support Services, Home and Community Based Services or Office for People With Developmental Disabilities
  • Work collaboratively with other providers and services such as physicians, dentists, insurance companies, schools, therapists/counselors, skill-building programs, and so many more
  • Act as a general support to enrolled youth and their families
