BUFFALO, NY, July 8, 2014 - Catholic Charities of Buffalo has received a $100,000 grant from the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation to support case management service coordination for military members and their families throughout the eight counties of Western New York. The grant reflects a commitment of $100,000 over the next three years.

The Ralph C. Wilson Foundation provides support to charitable and educational purposes with a mission to support non-profit organizations that make a tangible positive impact on people's lives.

Catholic Charities sought the funds in its effort to ensure that the organization is responding to the needs of the many current and past military members and their families in our communities. A Vision Military committee was begun more than a year ago and this support will help to further the group's goal that clients and the community see Catholic Charities as responsive to the needs of servicemen and servicewomen.

A part-time Catholic Charities' Case Management Service Coordinator, partially funded through the grant, will be dedicated to comprehensively respond to the needs of those who identify themselves as past or present military members, or a family member.  The Case Management Service Coordinator will thoroughly assess strengths and needs, and determine eligibility for, and link to, additional services and resources. Services will be tailored to the meet the identified needs. The Case Management Service Coordinator will further assess and track regional trends of needs, met and unmet, and utilization of services by military members and their families.

More than 1,240 military members, veterans and their families have been served in the last year by Catholic Charities' largest department alone.

"When we tracked the number of military members and veterans we were serving, we discovered a high number, creating the foundation to best meet the variety of needs of our servicemen and women," explained Dennis Walczyk, Catholic Charities chief executive officer. "We are grateful for this continued investment to move toward our long-term goal of increasing our staff's sensitivity and response to the veteran and military population in our community."
