BUFFALO, N.Y., Nov. 10, 2014 - Grammy Award-winning pianist George Winston will perform (Wednesday) Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. at Babeville's Asbury Hall in Buffalo, and will donate all of the profits from his CD sales that evening to Catholic Charities, as well as encourage attendees to bring canned or non-perishable food items for Catholic Charities' five food pantries.
Winston is best known for his melodic rural folk piano and seasonally themed recordings including DECEMBER, AUTUMN, WINTER INTO SPRING, and SUMMER. Since 1972, he has released 13 solo piano albums. This concert will feature selections from George's latest album, GULF COAST BLUES AND IMPRESSIONS 2 - A LOUISIANA WETLANDS BENEFIT, melodic piano recordings, as well as New Orleans R&B piano, stride piano, Vince Guaraldi's "Peanuts" pieces, and more.
An information display in the entrance of the venue will share how Catholic Charities helps those in need across Western New York, with two Catholic Charities staff members on hand to answer questions.
Catholic Charities operates five food pantries: Bishop Edward U. Kmiec Food Pantry and Outreach in South Buffalo; Fulton - St. Brigid Food Pantry and Outreach and Lovejoy Food Pantry and Outreach, both in Buffalo; Lackawanna Food Pantry and Outreach in Lackawanna; and Wellsville Food Pantry and Outreach in Allegany County. In 2013, Catholic Charities' food pantries served more than 5,100 individuals.
