Catholic Charities of Buffalo today reported the 2015 Appeal has reached $9.5 million in cash and pledges, representing 87 percent of this year's goal. As a result, volunteers and campaign leadership must raise an additional $1.4 million between now and June 30 in order to reach $10.9 million.
The Appeal is now at $9,552,031.05 and has raised an additional $1 million since the last report, which was given at the end of Appeal Week.
Sister Mary McCarrick, OSF, Catholic Charities diocesan director, said the Appeal team remains optimistic that the 91st annual Appeal will reach its goal.
"I have confidence that our community will rise to the occasion, as it has done in years past, to help us reach our goal," said Sister Mary. "We know our goal was ambitious this year, but we also know the Western New York community, and the innate good in all of us, wants to help our neighbors," she added.
Jake and Katie Schneider, 2015 Appeal chairs, thanked everyone who has donated to the Appeal, or supported it in any way so far. They also asked for one final push from volunteers to ensure Catholic Charities can meet its goal and continue to serve the hundreds of thousands of Western New Yorkers in need.
"We all know that our community strives to help our neighbors in need. We are encouraging follow up by parish teams and of course the other divisions, Corporate and Community," Jake Schneider said. In addition, Jake added, "Easter was a little early this year so some of our snowbird donors may be just returning. With Easter early, it allows more time for the community to join in now."
Katie Schneider urged us all to keep working to help Catholic Charities to continue to make a difference in the lives of the nearly 142,000 neighbors in need - Catholics and non-Catholics alike - who deeply depend on Catholic Charities and its services.
"Catholic Charities allows those who have experienced hardships and obstacles a second chance. When we find good within ourselves to support Catholic Charities, we are in turn supporting our neighbors, our community, our friends and our families," said Katie Schneider.
"Through your gift to the 2015 Appeal, we are able to help individuals receive an education and find jobs, provide counseling and support groups, provide foster care and much more. We ask that you please consider a donation - of any size - to the Appeal," Katie added.
Catholic Charities has helped individuals and families in need since its founding in 1923. The need is varied and widespread - from emergency assistance to counseling - and from specialized services for the elderly to help with job training and education.
