Catholic Charities of Buffalo’s Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development will offer a continuing education (CE) training titled “A Taste of Motivational Interviewing: The Spirit” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, March 19, at The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 225 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga.
The training will focus on the relationship between Trauma Responsive Care (TRC) and motivational interviewing skills and interventions that support a safe and trusting environment. Attendees can expect to learn about the fundamentals of motivational interviewing, key communication skills and exchanging information. The training will count for six live contact hours, and is open to social workers, licensed mental health counselors and credentialed alcoholism and substance abuse counselors. Certificates will be given upon training completion.
Instructor Cheryl Martin, RN, has 46 years of experience as a registered nurse. She has a trauma certificate from the University at Buffalo’s School of Social Work, and is a certified alcoholism and substance abuse counselor and a certified Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) trainer through the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. Martin is also a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network Trainers and a Motivational Interviewing Assessment Supervisory Tools for Enhancing Proficiency trainer for the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Blending Initiative. She currently works as an integrated health trainer and clinical consultant for Coordinated Care Services, Inc.
Early bird registration at $100 is available through Friday, Feb. 16. General registration after Feb. 16 costs $119. Continental breakfast and lunch are included. Refunds in full will be given up to one week before the training, with exceptions on a case-by-case basis. A cancellation of the training will result in a full refund.
