HOPE Day 2021 nets $317,228 for Annual Appeal

HOPE Day, the annual 24-hour match challenge day of giving to benefit Appeal 2021, brought in $260,516 on May 14. Matching funds of $53,712 added to this total increase HOPE Day's grand total to $314,228, towards the annual Appeal's $10 million goal in support of Catholic Charities and the Fund for the Faith.

Catholic Charities of Buffalo announced HOPE Day, the annual 24-hour match challenge day of giving to benefit Appeal 2021 is set for Friday, May 14 across Western New York. The first $40,000 raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar, with gifts from donors who wish to remain anonymous, in the ongoing effort to reach the annual Appeal's $10 million goal in support of Catholic Charities and the Fund for the Faith.
Catholic Charities, Community Action and Salvation Army Can Assist Residents in Genesee County with Utilities, Food and Housing/Rent

Catholic Charities' Genesee County office, Community Action of Orleans & Genesee and Salvation Army Batavia Corps are joining together to meet the needs of the local community when it comes to providing basic emergency assistance as a result of the ongoing pandemic. All three organizations received Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds to provide basic emergency assistance, including utility bills, food and rent/housing costs. The funds are only available for a limited time for residents of Genesee County.

Appeal 2021 Reaches $5.4 Million

Appeal 2021, in support of Catholic Charities of Buffalo and the Fund for the Faith, reached its halfway point this week, just before Appeal Sunday, March 28. Appeal officials announced the annual campaign has raised $5,425,595 which is 54.2% of the $10 million goal - ahead of the percent to goal over the last four years.

Catholic Charities Announces Nearly $15,000 Award from East Hill Foundation

Catholic Charities today announced the East Hill Foundation has awarded the organization $14,995 in support of its South Buffalo Promise Zone Neighborhood Closing the Gap Program and its Rapid Re-Housing program. Most of the award will be used to build a school community needs closet to best meet students' basic clothing and hygiene needs within four South Buffalo Public Schools. In addition, $600 of the total grant will be used to purchase pillows for previously homeless individuals achieving housing stability.
Catholic Charities Reminds Community to Utilize Pantries

As the coronavirus pandemic enters its tenth month, Catholic Charities is reminding the community that those in need of food can visit one of its nine food pantries. Since March, Catholic Charities' food pantries have served almost 7,000 individuals, including children. This is an increase of about 75% from the same time last year. The nine pantries have also distributed tens of thousands of food items, and hygiene and paper products throughout the region.

Catholic Charities team members will be at the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at 1413 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon to share free personal care items, cleaning and paper products, and diapers and diaper bags courtesy of the Women Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program.

Joint Statement Opposing the FY2021 Refugee Resettlement Cap

Yesterday, the Trump administration announced that the refugee resettlement ceiling will be set at 15,000 for Fiscal Year (FY) 2021. This is the lowest number since the U.S. resettlement program was established nearly 40 years ago.

Catholic Charities announces $3.75 million raised to date for Appeal 2020

Appeal Sunday, a decades-long Palm Sunday tradition, would have played out in parishes across the Diocese of Buffalo this weekend. Volunteers would greet Mass attendees at the church vestibule or ensure they were encouraged by their Pastor to put their envelopes in the basket as it was passed. Although none of that will happen because of the coronavirus pandemic, Catholic Charities of Buffalo today provided its first update on Appeal 2020.
