Peaceprints of WNY was recently awarded a $1,000,000 grant by the United States Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs Second Chance Act to implement Project Blue, a comprehensive reentry program for those returning from our local jail. Project Blue will provide intensive case management services for individuals being released from Erie County Jail and Holding Center. The program includes pre- and post-release services, evidenced based programming such as Ready, Set, Work! wraparound services, mentoring, housing coordination, comprehensive educational and employment services and access to healthcare services.

Yesterday, the Trump administration announced that the refugee resettlement ceiling will be set at 18,000 for Fiscal Year (FY) 2020. This is the lowest number since the U.S. resettlement program was established nearly 40 years ago. The Trump administration has reduced the annual ceiling from 110,000 (in the last year of the Obama Administration), to 45,000 in 2018, and 30,000 in 2019. These cuts have broken with the longstanding tradition of bi-partisan support for refugee resettlement in the United States.

Leaders of local immigration and resettlement organizations led the call this afternoon for Trump administration officials to reverse its apparent proposal to virtually shut down the refugee resettlement program in Fiscal Year 2020, at a time when the world faces its worst refugee crisis in history. A total of 1.4 million refugees are in need of resettlement globally and 40,000 of those already are approved for resettlement in the United States.

Issues of oppression and their intersection with violence will be the focus of a two-day conference hosted by Catholic Charities of Buffalo's Domestic Violence Program for Men, in collaboration with the National Organization for Men Against Sexism (NOMAS) and VCS Inc. Domestic Violence Program for Men of New York City. The conference, titled "A Summer Gathering!," will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, and Friday, Aug. 2, at the Tewksbury Lodge, 249 Ohio St., Buffalo.
Community's response fulfills $100,000 match challenge made by Wellsville businessman

In less than two weeks, the generous Western New York community has responded to fulfill the match challenge made by a Wellsville businessman. As of June 26th, a total of $108,972 in contributions, large and small, have been received to exceed the goal set by Charlie Joyce on June 13 when he pledged another $100,000 as a match to help close the gap for the 2019 Appeal.

Catholic Charities recognizes largest single donation in the 95-year history of the Appeal

With just over two weeks to go in the 2019 Appeal, Catholic Charities today recognized Charlie Joyce of Wellsville for his personal gift of $250,000, as well as his corporate gift of $100,000 from Otis Eastern Service LLC. At $350,000, this is the single largest personal and corporate donation in the 95-year history of the Appeal.

As of 4:30 p.m., the second annual Catholic Charities day of giving, now called HOPE Day, being held today throughout Western New York to benefit the 2019 Appeal, has now reached a total of $323,130. This total will increase by another $147,000 in matching funds for a total of $470,130.
