Rapid Rehousing

Rapid Rehousing is designed to assist homeless individuals and families who are currently staying at local shelters. The purpose is to help families and individuals quickly exit homelessness with both housing identification and financial assistance, and to help them achieve long-term housing stability.

Rapid Rehousing programs available in Buffalo and Erie County are: Buffalo Rapid Rehousing Program for individuals and families, Continuum of Care Program for families with children only, and Emergency Solutions Grant Program for individuals fleeing domestic violence and families with children.

The core components of rapid rehousing programs are:

  • Housing identification: Quickly find housing for program participants, recruit landlords and negotiate with landlords.
  • Move-in and rental assistance: Provide short-term help to households so they can pay for security deposits, move-in expenses, rent and/or utilities.
  • Case management services: Help participants obtain and move into permanent housing, support participants to stabilize in housing, connect participants to community and mainstream services, and give other supports as needed.
